The Blue Lotus Water Garden is located just near Yarra Junction in Victoria, Australia. It is only open between December and April due to the blooming of the plants being seasonal. That means your time to visit is limited. However, a visit is well worthwhile and the gardens are a photographic and sensory paradise.
During my visit, I quickly realised that I would need to return at least another two times to photogaph everything that I wanted to photograph. The variety of flowers, landscapes, ponds, and bird life simply could not be covered in just one visit. So there will be at least another blog on this location. To start with though, here are some feature images from my first visit to the Blue Lotus Water Garden.

What is so wonderful about a day of photographing these gardens is the feeling of utter tranquility. The surroundings are stunning. The ponds, the waterlilies, the many other flowers planted around the walkways, and the bird and insect life are all incredibly captivating enough just to walk through. With the photographic perspective you will leave this place feeling enthralled. The highlight is the contrasting colors of the ponds and lily pads with the many waterlilies themselves. The subjects really jump off the image background.
The Blue Lotus Water Garden opens for seven hours during the day and is well laid out. You will find that if you want to do some serious photography of all of the varities of waterlilies and flowers that you will run out of time during opening hours. I had intended to do some Macro Photography on this visit but found that was simply too much opportunity for depth of field images. Macro Photography would have to wait until next time! Also there were literally dozens of varieties of waterlilies on display.
It was good to get a scope of the gardens on my first visit in order to plan for returning visits. Also a number of the waterlilies had not fully bloomed at this time of year so March or April may seem like the better times to return. There are a lot of people at the gardens, but on the whole they don’t interfere with the many interesting photography vantage points. This made getting the images that I wanted fairly pain free. The only limitation was time.
